How Long Does Adhesive Sealant Take to Dry?

Sealant and adhesive drying times depend on the product, application thickness, surface and surrounding conditions. Surface drying is different from full curing. Before using the finished application, observe the waiting time in the selected product’s technical instructions.

Factors That Affect Drying Time

Drying time for sealants and adhesives varies with product chemistry, surface, application thickness, temperature and relative humidity. In thick applications, the interior can take longer to cure than the surface takes to dry. Do not reduce the required joint dimensions simply to speed up drying. Temperature and humidity affect products differently: water-based acrylic sealant dries by losing water, while silicone reacts with moisture in the air to cure. High humidity therefore does not delay every sealant. Check the product’s own technical instructions for application temperature, surface drying and full curing information.
